The Return Of The Swipe Short-Cut, Twitter Updates It’s Official iPhone App.

A new version of Twitter for iPhone is available today. The update sees the return of high-demand features, including the popular swipe shortcut, which was controversially axed in the previous version. Twitter has been inundated with requests from angry users to reintroduce it and this latest update at least shows, the company does occasionally listen to what their millions of users say.

To download the latest version, just head to the App Store on your iPhone and tap on update.

Here’s a list of what’s new, taken from the official Twitter blog:

  • Swipe shortcut: Swipe a Tweet in your home timeline to reply to, retweet, favorite or share it, or view the Twitter user’s profile, without leaving your timeline.
  • “Find friends”: We’ve added a confirmation alert when you select “Find friends”. This notification more clearly and explicitly messages the fact that when you upload your contacts’ email addresses and phone numbers, you can quickly find which of your friends are on Twitter (that is, if they’ve chosen to be discoverable by email or phone number).
  • Copy and paste: We’ve returned the ability to copy and paste the text of Tweets and user profiles. Just press and hold to copy.
  • Link love: The “share” feature used to just give you the option to copy or email a link to a Tweet. Now, if there’s a link within a Tweet, you’ll see the option to tweet, copy or mail that link, or you can choose to read it later. (Select a “Read Later Service” under Settings > Advanced.)
    • Pressing and holding links provides similar options, along with the ability to open the link in Safari.
  • Direct messages: We updated the design for Direct Messages and returned the ability to mark all DMs as read. Simply tap the check mark in the lower right corner.
  • Font size settings: Change the font size under Settings > Advanced.

Apple Announces Mac OS X Mountain Lion

Apple has today announced its next update for  Mac OS X – It’s called Mountain Lion and the Cupertino based company has already released a preview for developers.

The redesigned OS incorporates several features from iOS which powers the iPhone and iPad, including a new messaging app and Twitter integration.

“The Mac is on a roll, growing faster than the PC for 23 straight quarters, and with Mountain Lion things get even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

“The developer preview of Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the incredibly successful release of Lion and sets a rapid pace of development for the world’s most advanced personal computer operating system.”

iOS apps such as Messages, Notes, Reminders and Game Centre will be integrated into the Mac OS for the first time.

Mountain Lion will have iCloud compatibility and AirPlay mirroring (already available on the iPhone and iPad 2), which will allow Mac users to stream video and audio from their computer to a TV using Apple TV.

Apple said the new Messages app will replace iChat and will allow users to send messages, photos and videos for free from their Mac.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook said the latest release brings the Mac software closer to the iOS system on the iPhone and iPad.

“We see that people are in love with a lot of apps and functionality here,” Cook told the Wall Street Journal in an interview published on Thursday. “Anywhere where that makes sense, we are going to move that over to Mac.”

Tesco Offering “Unlimited” Broadband For Only £2.50 A Month

Tesco has slashed the cost of their unlimited broadband to only £2.50 a month, which works out at less than 9p a day. The only catch to this great offer, is that it’s only open to members of the retailer’s Clubcard loyalty scheme.

Tesco currently has 16 million Clubcard users – If customers take advantage of this offer, they will pay a total of £16.25 a month, £2.50 for the broadband and £13.75 line rental, which includes free evening and weekend calls. Tesco said customers who sign up to its broadband package, will get triple Clubcard points, which works out at 3 for every £1 spent.

According to Tesco, their offer which is available until 31 May 2012, is the cheapest unlimited broadband deal on the market. Customers can either choose a 30-day rolling contract (which includes a £40 set-up fee) or a 12-month contract (without the set-up fee). The price of the package goes up to £6.50 a month after one year.

Tesco will be offering speeds of 20Mbps, which matches those by other providers such as Orange, BT and Sky.

Tesco’s package is subject to a fair usage policy, meaning that if customers download more than 100GB worth of data a month on a regular basis, it will warn them or add extra charges – This could be a deal-breaker for heavy users, as Sky for example, has no fair usage cap.

These Retro iPhone Cases Are Quite Possibly The Coolest Ever Made

Schreer Delights have possibly created the coolest iPhone cases ever made. I’m sure most Apple geeks will agree when they see these 3 retro cases, inspired by popular Apple products from the past.

The cases come in 4 designs, one based on a click wheel iPod, retro Macintosh, G4 Tower and my personal favourite, one paying homage to the original colourful iMac.

These cases have already caused an Internet frenzy and the company has had to halt sales after only 48 hours due to overwhelming demand.

“Thanks again to all who ordered the Apple inspired iPhone cases. The response was overwhelming.” said Don Schreer on the company’s website.

“There was so much interest in the last 48 hours that we were concerned that we would be unable to keep up with demand. Because of the response, we took those items off the blog so that we could figure out some production issues.”

Let’s hope the company figure out a way to produce more and get them back on sale soon.
